A fascinating sub-genre of "children's" books are called toy books, and they are what they sound like (books that are also toys). This one is pure fun--a book with an honest-to-God Xylophone in it! Metal, wood, thread and paper, but it does not have the little wooden mallet with which it was apparently issued (only one other copy is listed, at Princeton University). My daughter would be enchanted--I know I am. The book has three songs in it, which you play by following the shapes/colors that correspond to the notes.

Wonderful!
